Building Engaged Communities P1

Getting People Involved

Community engagement is “people working collaboratively, through inspired action and learning, to create and realize bold visions for their common future.” – Tamarack Foundation

The engagement of citizens is critical to a healthy democratic society. Engagement is about connections and interactions, building relationships among people who work together for a common goal. It’s about encouraging participation – determining local priorities and then getting everyone involved in planning, developing policy, and making decisions. It’s about acknowledging local expertise and acting on it. Engagement is as much about the process as the results. Overall, it’s about making your community a better place to live.
