Building Inclusive Communities P1

The More We Get Together

We can all remember times when we felt as if we didn’t belong or that our opinions didn’t matter. It wasn’t very pleasant! We might have felt rejected because of our age, our culture, our gender, our beliefs, our lifestyle, or our knowledge and abilities. Too often, people find reasons to exclude others.

Inclusion is about ensuring that all citizens have the opportunity to take part in exploring and shaping the development of their community. It’s about recognizing and confronting prejudice, but it’s also about celebrating differences as well as what we have in common. In- clusive communities ensure respect, equality, and justice for everyone. In doing so, they grow increasingly strong, vibrant, and healthy.
