We are half way through the overall social economy project and that means that final reports for the various individual projects are starting to roll in.
The most recent projects for which final reports have been completed are:
Sustainable Financing for the Social Economy, Phases 1 and 2, by Wanda Wuttunee, Martin Chicilo, Russ Rothney, and Lois Gray (CL2-01 and CL2-02) | Final Report - Phase 1 (pdf) and Final Report – Phase 2 (pdf)
Phase 1: This Scan of Financing Providers is the first phase of a two phase study. The aim is to enhance capacity of social economy organizations, specifically social enterprises, through access to a greater range of appropriate financing options. The scan will seek to identify and describe the providers and types of financing instruments available to social enterprises in the study region: Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and northwestern Ontario.
Phase 2: This paper focuses on financing from the social enterprise perspective, including a brief discussion of the financing strategies as they change throughout the life of the enterprise. Through case studies, we profile four social enterprises operating in the City of Winnipeg, highlighting key elements in their history and strategies. The focus here is on independent social enterprises, as opposed to enterprises that are somehow affiliated with a social service agency or charitable organization. These stories reflect some of the common experiences of small enterprise start-up and development.
